I promise, I did real good while Marc was sick.
I made sure I stuffed myself with immune-boosting foods…
Creamy banana custard oatmeal with pumpkin puree stirred in and topped with dried figs, raisins, walnuts and coconut sugar. It had been way too long since I’ve had hot oats, such a wonderful treat!
Veggie, wild rice and cashew cabbage rolls from my favorite local store Community Natural Foods. I absolutely loved these, and refused to share with anyone else ;)
Smoothies…
Amazing green smoothie combo inspired by a new to me blogger and vegan app phenom, Carrie from Carrie on Vegan… incredible woman doing incredible things! This blend had spinach/chard/pomegranate/mango/hemp milk/flax/spirulina/carob/cinnamon. Must make again!
Soups…
More of the delicious Mellow Lentil ‘Sniffle’ Soup from the delightful and vegan extraordinaire Dreena at Plant Powered Kitchen. Couldn’t get enough!
Spiced up Cream of Broccoli Soup based on the ever-so-colorful and vibrant Meghan Telpner‘s recipe, topped with nutritional yeast for that yummy cheese flavor.
Supplements…
Kombucha from a lovely Canadian company, Tonica… oh heavens me this was gooooood! Well, this is only one of the many supplements which included SURO elderberry syrup and Natural Factors oil of oregano.
All that… and I got sick anyway. Humpfff.
Thankfully, it was a cold, not the nasty flu that my husband had for NINE days. I was miserable at work on Monday, took the day off Tuesday and was just about good as gold by yesterday.
I’m quite postitive it had something to do with this gorgeous, powerhouse glass of goodness…
Oh yes, she’s a beauty… but like many of us girls, there’s a lot more than meets the eye ;)
This juice certainly packs a vitamin C punch with the added bonus of anti-oxident, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and anti-viral properties.
One sip of this, and I went into sensory overload and immediately felt the fog being forcefully pushed out! If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know what the secret ingredient is…

Ohhhh yes… garlic! Yowza, this is a keeper!!
EB’s Immune Buster
Ingredients
2 oranges
2 big handfuls fresh cranberries (whoops, forgot to measure!)
2 inches ginger root
2 cloves garlic
Throw all ingredients in your favorite juicer, juice away and drink up! I like to flush it all through with a bit of water to make sure all that garlicky goodness makes it into the juice, plus it helps dilute the juice a little if you’re a bit scared, heh.
No juicer? Just peel the oranges, ginger and garlic, toss everything into a blender, blend to your hearts content and then strain!
Whew, this is potent stuff I gotta tell ya. It’s not for the faint of heart! But I firmly believe it knocked the cold right out of me, no lingering sniffles here!
Hmmmm… it IS pink, and it IS pretty… it could even pass as a Valentine’s juice!
No?
Too much?
Alright, alright. Just promise me you’ll try it next time you get a sniffle or two yourself.
I double dare you!
Now, excuse me while I rip into even more deliciousness from my good ‘Blend’ Lindsay…
Chocolate cherry chia, gingerbread, salted caramel dark chocolate, and cranberry sugar cookie HEALTHY BITES!! I love supporting good peeps, especially when it’s delightfully delicious
What’s the craziest thing you’ve eaten to fight a cold/flu?? What’s the most delicious? I want to hear it all!

I try to amp up the garlic for sure! But nothing too wild. Green juice with lots of ginger and lemon is as wild as it gets
One of my roommates in undergrad used to eat raw cloves of garlic!
It takes a strong person to eat that much raw garlic!! It is a little addicting though, I must admit
I stick with raw garlic, as much as I can stand, at the first sign someone in my house is sick. Also fresh green juice with ginger seems to help!
I am definitely a new believer in raw garlic! And I am also with you on green juice. HEAVY on the ginger…
okay, i need to come visit you now. LOOK AT THAT WRAP!!! and the KOMBUCHA! wowza! love the nourishment you give, and the support. xxoo thank YOU!
you are ALWAYS welcome! Perhaps we need a Blend Retreat in Banff?!! I need to get Bonnie in on it to plan the adventures… you would love it!
PS I just inhaled three Healthy Bites… um, the salted caramel is GENIUS!
First off, SALTED CARAMEL?! YUM!
Secondly, YES to BLEND in Banff – that would be incredible (and the Canadian Rockies could provide so much beauty and possibilities for fun and fitness together!).
Thirdly…we’ll be hanging out together soon! wahoo!
One of my childhood friends lives in Calgary and I’m always drooling over her photos of her adventures! You live in a beautiful place
I’m a firm believer in workout out to prevent illness. Whenever people around me get sick, I am sure to get 7 hrs plus of sleep a night, eat well, and workout daily! Even if I feel tired, I push through…sweating out the toxins usually works for me!!!
That food all looks delish! I also saw the woman who created Tonic on Dragon’s Den and didn’t realize her stuff was out and on the market; I’ll have to look for it! Also, I don’t think I’ve told you yet how much I love your blog redesign; it’s clean and sleek and I love the side panel patterns! Nice work.
I love your blog! Wish you would write more often. I find it inspiring
And I’m totally trying that juice.
That juice looks delicious (and potent!)
